OUR ArtProjects proudly presents Imagined HOME(LAND), a solo exhibition by Phuan Thai Meng. In his sixth solo exhibition, Phuan showcases a diverse body of work that is made up of paintings, photography, and map drawings. Drawing on the era of globalisation and the growing ease of connectivity between many parts of the world, Imagined HOME(LAND) explores new possibilities to rethink ideas about nationality, ethnicity, and social structures beyond the boundaries that we take as given.

Boundaries exist everywhere in our daily life, demarcating our understanding of nationality, ethnicity, and ways of life. They can be physical or mental, but wherever these boundaries make their marks, differences, conflicts, and misunderstandings arise. Phuan attempts to trace and interrogate the factors that have led to this divisiveness, which is ironically in contradiction to globalisation and the fluidity of identities today. Borrowing from the English phrase widely spoken in Thailand, “same same but different”, can individuals from various societies come together and embrace each other?
